Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak, who recently quit the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to join the BJP, could find himself embroiled in a major legal predicament. Two FIRs have been registered against Sandeep Pathak in Punjab. Consequently, the Punjab Police could arrest him.
According to reports surfacing on Saturday, cases involving non-bailable offenses have been registered against Sandeep Pathak in two districts of Punjab. The Punjab Police could initiate action in these matters at any moment.
Meanwhile, amidst the looming possibility of arrest, Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak was spotted leaving his residence in Delhi in a car.
It is noteworthy that the FIRs alleging non-bailable offenses were filed against Sandeep Pathak precisely at the time he left the Aam Aadmi Party to join the BJP. Sandeep Pathak joined the BJP alongside Raghav Chadha and Ashok Mittal. Additionally, cricketer Harbhajan Singh, Rajinder Gupta, Swati Maliwal, and Vikramjit Sahney also quit the Aam Aadmi Party to join the BJP.
With the exception of Swati Maliwal, the remaining six MPs represent Punjab in the Rajya Sabha—the state where assembly elections are scheduled to be held next year. Following the departure of these seven MPs, the Aam Aadmi Party’s seat tally in the Rajya Sabha has dropped from 10 to just 3.
Both the Aam Aadmi Party and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann have branded the MPs who quit the party as “traitors.” They asserted that those MPs who have insulted the public mandate deserve no mercy whatsoever, as they are traitors to both Punjab and the Punjabi people.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is also scheduled to meet with the President on May 5th to discuss this matter. On April 29th, Chief Minister Mann announced that he had secured an appointment with the President’s Secretariat and would be meeting the President on May 5th.
