The flood situation in Bihar remains critical. Approximately 16.85 lakh people across 11 districts have been affected. Relief camps, community kitchens, and NDRF-SDRF teams have been deployed.

The flood situation in Bihar remains critical due to rising water levels in various rivers. Approximately 1.68 million people across 300 gram panchayats in 61 blocks of 11 districts have been affected. Relief and rescue operations by the administration are ongoing.
Relief operations underway in affected areas
Eighty community kitchens are operating in the flood-affected districts, providing meals to around 121,000 people so far.
Additionally, a relief camp is operational, offering accommodation, food, medical care, and other amenities to 326 flood-affected individuals.
To provide immediate relief, approximately 45,900 polythene sheets and 11,700 dry ration packets have been distributed so far. A total of 1,158 boats are being operated across the state to facilitate the evacuation and movement of people.
NDRF and SDRF teams deployed
In anticipation of the flood situation, 27 SDRF teams and 7 NDRF teams have been deployed across various districts to carry out rapid relief and rescue operations.
According to data from the Water Resources Department (recorded between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM on Sunday), the Ganga is flowing above the danger mark at several key locations.

In Buxar, the water level of the Ganga was recorded at 0.08 meters above the danger mark, although the level is currently receding.
Water levels were recorded above the danger mark by 1.54 meters at Digha Ghat (Patna), 1.96 meters at Gandhi Ghat, and 1.74 meters at Hathidah. The water level remains stable at Gandhi Ghat, while a rise has been observed at Hathidah.
In Munger, the Ganga’s water level is 0.51 meters above the danger mark and shows a rising trend. Levels were recorded at 2.01 meters above the danger mark in Sultanganj and 0.65 meters above it in Bhagalpur. The water level remains above the danger mark at Kahalgaon as well.
Water discharge from Son, Kosi, and Gandak barrages
Meanwhile, the water level of the Ganges in Prayagraj and Varanasi is below the warning level. The water level is rising in Prayagraj, whereas a decline has been recorded in Varanasi.
According to barrage discharge data, 227,739 cusecs of water was being released from the Son Barrage (Indrapuri) at 9:00 AM on September 6. The water flow here shows a declining trend.
Water discharge was recorded at 168,400 cusecs from the Kosi Barrage (Birpur) and 129,000 cusecs from the Gandak Barrage (Valmikinagar). The water flow at both locations is reported to be stable.
Rainfall forecast for the next two days
Meanwhile, the Bihar Weather Service Centre has forecast light to moderate rainfall in several parts of the state over the next two days. Heavy rainfall is also possible in some areas.
In view of the rainfall and the potential rise in river water levels, the administration has been placed on alert for relief and rescue operations. The state government and district administration are continuously monitoring the situation in flood-affected areas. Relief materials, boats, and rescue teams are being deployed as required.
