The incident took place near Rajhara station around 1:00 PM, falling under the Dhanbad Division of the East Central Railway (ECR). Due to this accident, the routes of at least 10 passenger trains were diverted; some were terminated short of their destinations, while others were cancelled. Saraswati Chandra, Chief Public Relations Officer for the East Central Railway, stated, “Fifteen coal-laden coaches have derailed. Two long-distance goods trains, comprising approximately 116 coaches in total, were traversing this route.”
Indrajit Ram, the Station Manager at Rajhara Railway Station, confirmed that the work to clear the derailed coaches from the tracks has already commenced. An official from the Dhanbad Division of the East Central Railway explained that the 15 coaches of the goods train derailed on the ‘Up-line’ while undergoing a route diversion, thereby disrupting rail traffic between Daltonganj and Garhwa Road Junction. In railway terminology, the line leading towards the railway headquarters or a major junction is referred to as the ‘Up-line,’ while the line returning from there is known as the ‘Down-line.’
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), the ECR announced that the Ranchi-Sasaram Express has been cancelled due to this accident. Additionally, three trains—including the Ranchi-Chopan Express, Gomoh-Chopan Passenger, and Barkakana-Dehri-on-Sone Passenger—have been terminated short of their scheduled destinations. Furthermore, the routes of six other trains—including the Hatia-Anand Vihar Express, Ranchi-Delhi Rajdhani, Palamu Express, and Shaktipunj Express—have been diverted.
