After a day of scorching heat and intense sunshine across Delhi-NCR on Thursday, the weather took a sudden turn. In the afternoon, a dust storm accompanied by strong winds swept through the region, following which dark clouds gathered in the sky and light to moderate rain began in several areas.

Delhi-NCR is set to receive relief from the scorching heat. The Meteorological Department has forecast strong winds accompanied by thunderstorms and rain in Delhi within the next two hours. Around 3:30 PM on Thursday (April 30), dark clouds gathered across the sky. Rain, accompanied by strong winds, lashed Delhi-NCR. In Ghaziabad, rain is being accompanied by hailstones; specifically, a hailstorm is currently underway at the Loni T-point. Heavy rainfall was also reported in Noida and Sahibabad. Hailstones also fell in Sahibabad and in Delhi’s Dilshad Garden area.

Rain and Storm Warning for Delhi Until 6 PM – IMD

The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for all districts of Delhi, forecasting light to moderate rainfall, strong winds, and lightning until 6 PM this evening. Wind speeds are expected to range between 50 and 60 kilometers per hour.

Rain in Haryana Too; Apple Crops Damaged in Shimla

The weather pattern in Haryana also witnessed a shift. Residents in Karnal breathed a sigh of relief following the rainfall. Shimla also experienced heavy downpours. Hailstorms occurred in Upper Shimla, causing damage to the apple crops. The Meteorological Department had previously issued an alert for today, warning of rain, hailstorms, thunderstorms, and strong winds.

On Thursday, the minimum temperature recorded at Delhi’s Safdarjung observatory stood at 25.4 degrees Celsius. According to data from other weather monitoring stations, the minimum temperatures recorded were 24.9 degrees Celsius at Palam, 23.6 degrees Celsius at Lodhi Road, 25 degrees Celsius at the Ridge, and 24.1 degrees Celsius at Aya Nagar. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 36 degrees Celsius. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi stood at 136, falling into the “moderate” category. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), an AQI between 0-50 is considered “good,” 51-100 “satisfactory,” 101-200 “moderate,” 201-300 “poor,” 301-400 “very poor,” and 401-500 “severe.”
