Amidst allegations of irregularities regarding offerings at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, similar accusations have now surfaced concerning the Badrinath Dham in Uttarakhand. Consequently, the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) has ordered an inquiry.
According to a BKTC official, a Dehradun-based organization named ‘Bhairav Sena’ has alleged that an employee stationed at Badrinath Dham is mishandling donation and offering funds. Although the organization has not presented concrete evidence to substantiate these claims, the committee has initiated an investigation given the sensitive nature of the matter. Additionally, explanations have been sought from the staff members responsible for counting the donation funds.
Committee Formed for Impartial Investigation into Allegations
Speaking to the English daily The Indian Express, BKTC Chairman Hemant Dwivedi stated that the committee has taken these allegations seriously. He remarked, “This matter concerns the faith of millions of devotees; therefore, instructions have been issued to constitute a committee for an impartial investigation into the allegations.”
He also clarified that the investigation report would be made public. If any employee is found to be involved, strict legal and departmental action will be taken against them.
Is the BKTC Chairman’s Personal Assistant Involved in the Alleged Embezzlement?
Meanwhile, claims have circulated on social media suggesting that the BKTC Chairman’s personal assistant is involved in the alleged embezzlement. Addressing this, Hemant Dwivedi said, “I do not have a personal secretary. The individual being named is a regular employee of the BKTC and has previously served as a personal secretary to three other chairmen.” “If the allegations are substantiated during the investigation, action will be taken against the concerned individual in accordance with the rules.”
BKTC Chief Executive Officer Sohan Singh Rangar stated that while footage from the CCTV cameras installed within the Badrinath temple premises was examined on Friday, no concrete irregularities have come to light so far.
He added that if evidence of financial misconduct or violations of rules is found during the investigation, legal and departmental action will be taken against the concerned persons under the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee Act, 1939, and the employee conduct rules.
