New Delhi is likely to experience a heatwave from Wednesday through Friday. Concurrently, the mercury is expected to rise to approximately 44 degrees Celsius in several parts of the national capital. In light of this situation, the Meteorological Department has issued a ‘Yellow Alert.’
Despite brief relief provided by strong winds on Tuesday, the maximum temperature in the Delhi-NCR region stood at 38.8 degrees Celsius—one degree above the seasonal normal. The minimum temperature was recorded at 20.5 degrees Celsius and is expected to rise steadily, reaching approximately 26 degrees Celsius by April 25.
Intense heat was felt across New Delhi during the daytime. The primary observatory at Safdarjung recorded a maximum temperature of 38.8 degrees Celsius, which is 1.1 degrees above the normal level.
Notably, despite continuously rising temperatures at various monitoring stations, a ‘heatwave’ condition has not yet been officially declared in Delhi this season.
Among other key weather stations, Palam recorded a maximum temperature of 38.6 degrees Celsius, which is considered normal for this time of the year. Meanwhile, the temperature at Lodhi Road was recorded at 39.0 degrees Celsius—2.0 degrees above the normal level. The Ridge area emerged as the hottest spot, recording a maximum temperature of 40.2 degrees Celsius—1.8 degrees above normal. Temperatures were also significantly high in Aya Nagar, where 39.8 degrees Celsius was recorded—1.4 degrees above average.
The minimum temperature at Safdarjung was recorded at 20.5 degrees Celsius—2.2 degrees below normal. At Palam, the minimum temperature stood at 22.2 degrees Celsius—1.1 degrees below normal.
Lodhi Road recorded a minimum temperature of 18.8 degrees Celsius—3.2 degrees below the normal level—while the Ridge station recorded 22.3 degrees Celsius, which is 0.8 degrees below normal. A minimum temperature of 21.2 degrees Celsius was recorded in Aya Nagar, which is 1.2 degrees below the normal average.
