Amidst crippling inflation across the country, the common man has received yet another blow. On Wednesday, Amul announced a nationwide hike of ₹2 per liter in milk prices. The new rates will come into effect starting May 14. The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets its products under the Amul brand, has attributed this price hike to rising operational costs. As milk is a daily necessity in every household, this increase in prices is set to have a direct impact on the common man’s pocket.

Prices for various Amul milk products have seen an increase ranging from ₹1 to ₹3. Consequently, the price of a half-liter pouch of Amul Taaza milk will rise from ₹28 to ₹29. Meanwhile, the price of a one-liter pouch of Amul Taaza will go up from ₹55 to ₹57. The price of one liter of Amul Tea Special milk will increase from ₹63 to ₹66. A half-liter pouch of Buffalo Milk will now cost ₹39, up from ₹37. Similarly, the price of Amul Gold will rise from ₹34 to ₹35, and a half-liter pouch of Amul Shakti milk will also increase from ₹34 to ₹35.

In a statement, Amul announced its decision to raise milk prices across India by ₹2 per liter, effective May 14. The company noted that this hike amounts to approximately 2.5–3.5 percent per liter, which is lower than the average food inflation rate. The company stated, “This price hike is being implemented due to an increase in the overall cost of operations and milk production. This year, there has been a significant rise in the costs of cattle feed, milk packaging materials, and fuel.”

The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) further informed that its member unions have also increased the procurement price paid to farmers for milk by ₹30 per kilogram of fat—a 3.7 percent increase compared to May 2025 levels. This cooperative body stands as one of the leading suppliers of milk in India. The last price hike was implemented on May 1, 2025.
