In Delhi, the price of CNG has risen by ₹2, reaching ₹79.09 per kg. The prices of petrol and diesel have also increased. The Opposition has targeted the Central Government over this issue.
महंगाई की मार जारी, पेट्रोल-डीजल के बाद CNG भी महंगी, विपक्ष ने सरकार पर साधा निशाना
Amidst nationwide concerns regarding inflation, the general public received a major shock this morning. In addition to the hike in petrol and diesel prices, the cost of CNG has also been increased. In Delhi, CNG prices have been raised by ₹2 per kilogram, bringing the new rate to ₹79.09 per kg. The impact of this hike in fuel prices became visible on roads and at petrol pumps right from the morning.
Prior to Delhi, CNG prices had also been hiked in Mumbai. There, the price of CNG was raised from ₹82 to ₹84 per kilogram. These new rates came into effect on May 14. As soon as news of the price hike emerged, heavy crowds were witnessed at several petrol pumps across Delhi. People began rushing to fill up their tanks before the increased prices came into force.
Opposition Attacks Over Fuel Prices
Following the hike in the prices of petrol, diesel, and CNG, the opposition has launched a scathing attack on the Central Government. Posting on the social media platform ‘X’, the Congress party wrote: “Inflation-Man Modi has once again cracked the whip on the public today. Petrol and diesel prices have been hiked by ₹3 each. Meanwhile, CNG prices have also been raised by ₹2. Elections over; Modi’s ‘extortion’ begins.”
Congress leader Kumari Selja stated that the moment the elections concluded, the BJP government gifted the public with inflation. She alleged that a pretense of providing relief was maintained until the elections were over, only for a burden to be placed on the common man’s pocket the moment the polls ended.
TMC and Shiv Sena Leaders Also Take Aim
Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’Brien also attacked the Central Government, remarking that the public’s votes are secured first, and subsequently, a burden is imposed on the people by hiking petrol and diesel prices. He raised the question of whether the West Bengal government would now reduce the VAT on petrol and diesel.
Meanwhile, taking a jibe at the situation, Priyanka Chaturvedi wrote: “The Rupee, Diesel, and Petrol… which one will cross the century mark first?” On the other hand, Dilip Ghosh—a minister in the West Bengal government—defended the price hikes, stating that the world has been facing war-like conditions for the past three years, which has triggered crises in numerous countries. He stated that Prime Minister Modi kept the situation under control, and gas prices were raised to a bare minimum.
