उत्तर प्रदेश में कुदरत का कहर, आंधी-बारिश से मरने वाले लोगों की संख्या 111 हुई, बिजली और रेल सेवाएं भी बुरी तरह प्रभावित
Storms and heavy rains that swept across Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday caused widespread devastation. In various districts, 96 people lost their lives due to falling trees, lightning strikes, and related accidents, while many others sustained injuries. The impact was most severe in the Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Kanpur divisions, where daily life came to a complete standstill.
Due to the fierce storms, trees and electricity poles toppled in several districts, disrupting power supply. In rural areas, thatched huts and tin-roofed structures were blown away, while standing crops in the fields suffered extensive damage. Commuting on roads was severely affected by the dust storms and rain, bringing traffic to a complete halt in many locations.
Highest Fatalities in These Districts
The highest number of fatalities in the state were recorded in Bhadohi, Prayagraj, and Mirzapur. Bhadohi reported 18 deaths, while Prayagraj recorded 17 and Mirzapur 15. Additionally, 10 deaths were reported in Fatehpur; 6 each in Unnao and Badaun; and 4 each in Pratapgarh and Bareilly.
Two deaths each were reported in Sitapur, Rae Bareli, Chandauli, Kanpur Dehat, Hardoi, and Sambhal, while one death each was recorded in Kaushambi, Shahjahanpur, Sonbhadra, and Lakhimpur Kheri. Relief and rescue operations by the administration are currently underway.
Major Impact on Rail Services
The storms also had a significant impact on the railway network. In Fatehpur, an overhead equipment (OHE) line snapped after a tree fell on it, disrupting traffic on the Delhi-Howrah rail route for approximately one and a half hours. Consequently, 22 trains passing through Kanpur were affected.
On the Prayagraj-Jaunpur rail section, train operations came to a halt after a massive tree fell between the Tharwai and Sarai Chandi railway stations. Meanwhile, rail services on the Lucknow-Pratapgarh route were also disrupted. Adityanath Government Issues Directives for Relief
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to provide immediate relief in response to the damage caused by unseasonal rains, storms, and lightning strikes. He stated that the distribution of compensation to victims and the execution of relief operations must be completed within 24 hours.
The Chief Minister has instructed District Magistrates and officials from relevant departments to visit the affected areas personally and extend every possible assistance to the affected families. He made it clear that no form of negligence in relief operations would be tolerated.
