उत्तराखंड में 27 जनवरी से लागू हुआ UCC, मुख्यमंत्री धामी का ऐलान
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) will be implemented in Uttarakhand from Monday and with this it will become the first state in independent India where this law will come into force.
In a statement issued here on Saturday evening, the Chief Minister said, “All necessary preparations have been completed to implement the UCC, which includes approval of the rules of the Act and training of the concerned officials.”
He said that the UCC will bring uniformity in the society and ensure equal rights and responsibilities for all citizens.
Dhami said, “UCC is just an offering made by our state in the great yagya being done by the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) to make the country a developed, organized, harmonious and self-reliant nation. Under the Uniform Civil Code, an attempt has been made to bring uniformity in all the laws related to personal civil matters that discriminate on the basis of caste, religion, gender etc.”
Implementation of UCC in Uttarakhand is one of the major promises made by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during the 2022 assembly elections in the state. As soon as he regained power in March, the first cabinet meeting under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami approved the UCC proposal and approved the formation of an expert committee to prepare its draft.
The expert committee constituted on 27 May 2022 under the chairmanship of retired Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai submitted its report prepared after about one and a half years of hard work to the state government on 2 February 2024, on the basis of which the state assembly passed the UCC Bill in March 2024. After that, on 12 March 2024, the President also gave his approval to it.
