Now, not only liquor distilleries are being lit on the banks of these big rivers, but liquor warehouses are also being built. It is said that the presence of sand on the wide banks of big rivers of Bihar has now become a safe zone for liquor smugglers.
Anyway, when the police set up patrols from roads to footpaths to catch liquor smugglers, the smugglers made the river routes their base for smuggling. It is said that now fishermen have also started adopting this smuggling activities. Recent incidents like recovery of liquor from boats and river banks and smugglers not being caught prove this.
It is believed that the area of Diara is such a remote area where even the police do not want to go quickly. In such a situation, liquor furnaces burn in many areas and liquor is made from Mahua. It is said that after making liquor, a pit is dug in the sand and it is kept in a drum and hidden. There are many border districts like Kaimur, Buxar, Rohtas, Gopalganj where smugglers are now making rivers their base.

Similar situation exists in Gopalganj district also where check posts have been made on the road.
It is said that smugglers easily reach Bihar by boat from UP at night and then hide it in the sand on the banks of river Gandak. After this, after receiving the order, they easily take it out and supply it to the surrounding blocks. It is not that the police are not aware of this. The police also comes to know about this and conducts raids but the liquor is recovered but the smugglers are not caught.
It is said that smugglers are experts in swimming in rivers and when they see the police coming, they jump into the water. Police records also show that liquor smugglers are now eyeing the river route. Four days ago, about 800 liters of liquor was recovered from two boats in two different police station areas of Gopalganj district, but the smugglers managed to escape.
Earlier on December 27, Saran district police had recovered 6642 liters of foreign liquor from a boat in Gandak river. Along with recovering 225 liters of liquor, the police also seized a boat near Mangalpur bridge in Jadopur police station area of Gopalganj in the month of December.
Gopalganj Superintendent of Police Swarn Prabhat also says that it is a challenge for the police to catch liquor smugglers through the river route. However, he also said that whether it is road or river route, the police is continuously taking action against liquor smugglers. He said that raids are conducted continuously. It is noteworthy that prohibition law is in force in Bihar since 2016, under which sale and consumption of liquor is banned in the state.
