चीन में बड़ा हादसा, कोयला खदान में धमाका, 90 की जान गई, 247 मजदूर काम कर रहे थे
At least 90 workers have died in a gas explosion at a coal mine in China’s Shanxi province. President Xi Jinping has issued directives to expedite investigation and relief operations. He has also ordered strict action against those responsible.
A massive gas explosion occurred at a coal mine in Shanxi province, located in the northern part of China. According to a report by The Guardian, the death toll from the incident—which took place on Friday evening—has risen to at least 90. The accident occurred around 7:29 PM on Friday at the Liushenyu coal mine in Qinyuan County, Shanxi province, located approximately 520 kilometers from Beijing.
The incident took place while a total of 247 workers were working inside the mine. Initial reports confirmed the deaths of eight people, while more than 200 workers were safely evacuated. Early reports indicated that carbon monoxide levels inside the mine had risen above dangerous limits. An alert regarding a carbon monoxide leak had been issued prior to the accident. Shortly thereafter, a massive explosion occurred. This gas is highly toxic and odorless. The condition of some workers was reported to be critical, while many remained trapped inside the mine for an extended period.
Xi Jinping Issues Strict Directives
Chinese President Xi Jinping has instructed officials to “spare no effort” in providing medical treatment to the injured and carrying out relief operations. He also ordered an investigation into the causes of the accident and called for action against those responsible. According to the state-run news agency Xinhua, Xi Jinping stated that all regions and departments must learn lessons from this tragedy and remain constantly vigilant regarding workplace safety. He emphasized the need to take strict measures to prevent major and catastrophic accidents.
Video of Rescue Operation Surfaces
Footage circulating on social media showed helmet-clad rescue workers rushing with stretchers. A heavy presence of ambulances and relief teams was observed at the scene of the accident. According to local authorities, rescue operations are continuing unabated, and an investigation into the cause of the accident has been initiated.
The Largest Mining Disaster in Recent Years
This accident is being counted among China’s deadliest mining disasters of the past decade. Prior to this, in 2023, 53 people lost their lives when an open-pit coal mine collapsed in Inner Mongolia, northern China. Meanwhile, in 2009, an explosion at a mine in Heilongjiang province claimed the lives of more than 100 people.
In the early 2000s, a large number of laborers used to perish in incidents such as gas explosions and floods. Subsequently, the government strengthened safety standards and enhanced surveillance systems within mines, leading to a decline in accidents. However, incidents such as explosions continue to occur within the coal sector.
