The weather has taken a turn once again. Nearly half of the country can expect relief from heat and heatwaves over the next three days. In its forecast, the Meteorological Department stated that, due to a Western Disturbance, conditions are once again becoming favorable for storms, rainfall, and lightning strikes across North India. Specifically, cloud movement continues across Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan, Haryana, and certain districts of Punjab. Given that the influence of the disturbance is expected to persist over the mountains until Sunday, the IMD has issued an alert for rain, snowfall, and hailstorms in the higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Uttarakhand.

However, intense heat and heatwave conditions are likely to persist in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, Skymet has issued a major warning regarding the seven northeastern states. It has warned of moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied by the risk of thunderstorms, squalls—with wind speeds ranging from 70 to 80 kilometers per hour—and lightning strikes between April 17 and 19. Elsewhere, amidst prevailing heatwave conditions in South India, rainfall has been forecast for Kerala and Andhra Pradesh.

Weather Patterns Set to Change Once Again in the NCR

The weather is poised to take a turn once again across the entire NCR region, including Noida, Ghaziabad, and Delhi. According to the latest forecast issued by the Meteorological Department—although no specific weather alerts have been issued—the skies are expected to remain partly cloudy.

Concurrently, a steady rise in temperatures is anticipated. On April 21, 22, and 23, the maximum temperature is expected to hover between 40°C and 41°C, while the minimum temperature is likely to remain in the range of 21°C to 23°C. Humidity levels are expected to fluctuate between 65 and 75 percent. The forecast indicates that the skies will remain predominantly clear over the next three days. Although strong winds and light rainfall have led to a partial improvement in the Air Quality Index, the overall situation has not yet fully normalized.

Weather Update for UP

Residents in the areas of Uttar Pradesh bordering Delhi have certainly found some relief from the heat thanks to rain and thunderstorms; however, temperatures continue to rise in the rest of the state. In the Bundelkhand region—specifically in Jhansi and Banda—maximum temperatures have hovered around 44 degrees Celsius, subjecting residents to the severe torment of scorching heat. According to the IMD (India Meteorological Department), maximum temperatures have already crossed the 40-degree Celsius mark in 16 districts. The Meteorological Department predicts that temperatures could rise by another 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next two days. Following this, a new Western Disturbance is expected to become active; this could result in cloudy skies over parts of the state, while several areas may experience thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds. However, no major alerts regarding heavy rainfall have been issued.

How Long Will the Heatwave Persist in Bihar?

The relentless heatwave continues to grip Bihar as well. Most parts of the state are currently under the grip of intense heat, accompanied by strong, hot winds. However, amidst the continuously rising temperatures, a Western Disturbance may influence the weather in certain parts of the state. Over the next 40 hours, a minor shift in weather patterns is anticipated; several districts may witness a change in weather conditions, ranging from light drizzle to rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. During this period, winds are expected to blow at speeds ranging from 30 to 50 kilometers per hour. This change in weather is likely to result in a decline in both maximum and minimum temperatures.

Will It Rain in Rajasthan?

Forecasts also indicate a possibility of deteriorating weather conditions across several districts of Rajasthan. According to the Meteorological Department, thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds and rain were recorded in Bikaner, Jodhpur, Sri Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, and several other areas, resulting in a drop in both maximum and minimum temperatures. The department predicts that intermittent dust storms and rainfall are likely in Jhunjhunu, Churu, Sikar, Sri Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, and Alwar through Saturday and Sunday. Although clouds have gathered over the Jaipur region as well, no significant weather activity is anticipated there.

What will the weather be like in Uttarakhand?

Most parts of Uttarakhand will experience sunny weather; however, a partial influence of a Western Disturbance is expected in some high-altitude regions, which may trigger localized weather activity. According to the Meteorological Department, winds gusting between 30 and 40 km/h, along with rain and hailstorms, are possible in Tehri, Dehradun, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh. These weather events are expected to influence temperatures over the next 48 hours. Conversely, the plains will remain dry, and residents there will continue to experience hot weather.

Possibility of Rain in Punjab and Haryana

Along with Delhi-NCR, there is also a possibility of rain in Punjab and Haryana. Following the recent rainfall, residents in these regions have experienced immediate relief from the heat. The IMD has issued an alert for both states, warning of strong winds gusting between 30 and 40 km/h, accompanied by heavy rainfall. Thanks to these continuous weather changes, relief from the heat is expected to persist until April 19.
