Dehradun, Uttarakhand: President Droupadi Murmu reviews the 158th passing out parade of the Indian Military Academy (IMA)

This time, a total of 515 Gentleman Cadets passed out from the IMA and became military officers. President Droupadi Murmu reviewed the parade and honored the Best Gentleman Cadet.

The 158th Passing Out Parade concluded at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand. A total of 515 Gentleman Cadets graduated from the IMA to become military officers. President Droupadi Murmu reviewed the parade and honored the ‘Best Gentleman Cadet’.

The nation gained 481 new military officers; the Indian Armed Forces received 151 new officers. This cohort included nine female cadets graduating from the IMA for the first time. Additionally, 34 Gentleman Cadets from 16 friendly nations also graduated. President Droupadi Murmu was the chief guest at this edition of the IMA Passing Out Parade.

IMA Passing Out Parade

The proceedings for the IMA Passing Out Parade began around 6:45 AM on Saturday, June 13. First, the Company Sergeant Majors arrived at the premises of the Chetwode Building. Simultaneously, all the cadets arrived at the Chetwode Ground and took their positions. Subsequently, the Indian Military Academy’s ‘Nishan’ (the Academy’s flag/standard) was brought to the parade ground. The Academy’s standard was accorded a salute while everyone stood in respect. The parade then paid respects to the senior officers present.

Welcome of Visiting Military Officers

Among the visiting military officers at the parade venue, Major General Sachin Malik was welcomed first. Lieutenant General Nagendra Singh was welcomed as the second officer, and the parade welcomed Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma as the third.

President Droupadi Murmu Reviewed the Parade

Around 7:15 AM, Uttarakhand Governor (Retired Lieutenant General) Gurmeet Singh and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami arrived at the venue to attend the IMA Passing Out Parade. Subsequently, at approximately 7:30 AM, the chief guest for the event, President Droupadi Murmu, arrived at the parade ground. The President reviewed the parade while riding in a special horse-drawn carriage known as the ‘Patiala Coach’. President Honors Best-Performing Officer Cadet: Following the inspection of the parade by the President, the marching began. After the inspection, the President honored the Gentleman Cadet who had performed the best throughout the course.

Vishal Kumar Receives Sword of Honour and Gold Medal

Vishal Kumar of the academy received two major awards: the Sword of Honour and a Gold Medal. He was awarded the Sword of Honour for being the ‘Best Among Officer Cadets’ and received the Gold Medal for topping the REG course.

Prince Raj Receives Silver Medal

Officer Cadet Prince Raj was awarded the Silver Medal for securing second place in the REG course. Officer Cadet Tejas Bhatt was awarded the Bronze Medal for securing third place in the REG course. Officer Cadet Hrishabh Mishra received the TGC Silver Medal for standing first in the Technical Graduate Course.

Bodhraj Thapa Receives Gold Medal in Special Commission

Bodhraj Thapa received the Gold Medal in the Special Commission category. Karan Pandey was awarded the Silver Medal for standing first in the TES course. Among the cadets from friendly foreign nations, a cadet from Bangladesh received the ‘Best Cadet’ award. Following this, the President addressed the bravehearts who had transitioned from Gentleman Cadets to military officers.

‘Peeping’ Ceremony Begins

After the President’s address, all the officer cadets bade farewell to the Indian Military Academy. With the ‘Antim Pag’ (Final Step) at the military academy, the cadets took their first step into the Indian Army as commissioned officers. During this time, flowers were showered upon the officer cadets from a helicopter. Following the ‘Antim Pag’, the ‘Peeping’ ceremony commenced at the IMA academy. Here are the best officer cadets:

  • Sword of Honour and Gold Medal – Vishal Kumar; Silver Medal – Prince Raj; Bronze Medal – Tejas Bhatt; Silver Medal (TGC) – Hrishabh Mishra; Silver Medal (TES) – Karan Pandey; Silver Medal (SCO) – Bodhraj Thapa; Best Foreign Cadet – Jaf Sadid Alvi, Bangladesh; Chief of Army Staff Banner – Imphal Company.
