BPSC TRE 4.0 Protest: Police Resort To Lathi Charge On Aspirants Demanding Release Of Notification, India

Bihar | BPSC aspirants staged a protest in Patna, demanding the release of the TRE 4.0 advertisement. The police lathi-charged the protesters, leading to chaotic, stampede-like conditions.

The echoes of the cabinet expansion in Bihar politics had barely subsided when a massive protest by BPSC aspirants erupted in the capital city, Patna. Approximately 10,000 students took to the streets, demanding the release of the advertisement for the fourth phase of teacher recruitment—known as TRE 4.0. The situation turned tense during the protest when the police resorted to a lathi-charge (baton charge) to contain the crowd. Following the lathi-charge, chaotic conditions resembling a stampede ensued at the scene, leaving several students falling over one another.

Protest March from Patna College to Dak Bungalow

The aspirants’ protest march began at Patna College and proceeded toward the Dak Bungalow intersection. The sheer volume of students taking to the streets brought the entire city to a standstill. Traffic around the Dak Bungalow intersection became completely chaotic, causing severe difficulties for vehicles ranging from ambulances to school buses attempting to pass through.

The protest is being led by student leader Dilip Kumar. The students allege that the government is continuously dragging out the TRE 3 recruitment process, even as hundreds of thousands of aspirants await the advertisement for TRE 4.0. The protesters are also demanding that the government publicly disclose the exact number of vacant posts in the teacher recruitment drive and provide a clear timeline for the issuance of the advertisement.

Demand Raised Regarding Domicile Policy

During the protest, the issue of a domicile policy—prioritizing local youth from Bihar—was also raised vociferously. The aspirants are demanding that this policy be strictly enforced during the teacher recruitment process to ensure that the state’s own youth receive priority.

Student leader Dilip Kumar stated that while the government remains preoccupied with the cabinet expansion, it is failing to address the concerns of the youth who have been awaiting the recruitment process for a long time. He issued a warning that if the advertisement is not released today, the protest movement will be escalated into an indefinite sit-in demonstration.

Police Forces Deployed; Administration on Alert

To bring the situation under control, the administration deployed a heavy police force. Water cannons were positioned to deter the protesters, and the Dak Bungalow intersection was cordoned off from all sides. However, as the protest intensified, a confrontational situation developed between the police and the students. So far, no official statement has been issued by the Education Department or the recently sworn-in ministers. This has further intensified the resentment among students. This day-long protest in Patna has once again raised serious questions regarding the state’s education and recruitment systems.
