Ten people have died due to floods in Assam in the last 24 hours. More than 6.55 lakh people across 11 districts have been affected, while 3.13 lakh people are staying in relief camps.

The flood situation in Assam remains critical. According to the State Disaster Management Authority, 10 people, including four children, have died due to the floods in the last 24 hours. With this, the death toll from the floods in the state has risen to 41. Meanwhile, six people—three men and three women—remain missing. More than 6.55 lakh people across 11 districts have been affected by the ongoing flood crisis.
Flood havoc across 11 districts; Sivasagar worst-hit
According to the ASDMA report, three people each died in Sivasagar and Jorhat districts, while two lost their lives in Charaideo, and one person each died in Dhemaji and Karbi Anglong. The flood-affected districts include Karbi Anglong, Golaghat, Charaideo, Kamrup, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Nagaon, Dhemaji, Hojai, and Kamrup (Metro).
Sivasagar district has been the worst affected, with 3,92,195 people impacted. Additionally, 1,10,755 people in Charaideo, 97,690 in Jorhat, 25,591 in Golaghat, and 13,390 in Dibrugarh are grappling with the floods. A total of 939 villages across 40 revenue circles in the state remain submerged.
Water levels of several rivers, including the Brahmaputra, flowing above danger marks
Due to incessant rainfall, the water levels of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries are steadily rising at several locations. The water level of the Disang River at Nanglamuraghat is flowing above the Highest Flood Level (HFL). Meanwhile, the Burhi Dihing River at Chenimari (Khowang), the Dikhow River in Sivasagar, the Dhansiri (South) River at Numaligarh, and the Kushiyara River at Sribhumi (FFS) are flowing above the danger mark. 3.13 lakh people in relief camps; rescue operations underway
More than 3.13 lakh flood-affected people have taken shelter in 487 relief camps and relief distribution centers established by the district administration. According to the ASDMA, 1,38,965 animals have also been affected by the floods.
Teams from the Indian Army, NDRF, SDRF, Fire & Emergency Services (F&ES), Police, Civil Defence and trained volunteers, the Indian Air Force, and DDRF are deployed in the affected areas for relief and rescue operations. On Wednesday, these teams safely rescued 8,409 people.
Roads and embankments also damaged
The impact of the floods is not limited to the population alone. The flooding on Wednesday also caused damage to 53 roads, 6 embankments, and other public and private properties. Amidst continuously rising water levels and heavy rainfall, relief and rescue operations are proceeding on a war footing across the state.
