A part of a bridge connecting Anand and Padra collapsed in Padra taluka of Vadodara district of Gujarat. As soon as the bridge collapsed, many vehicles fell into the river. It is being told that three people have died in this accident, while many people have been rescued.
According to the information, a part of the bridge connecting Anand and Padra fell into the Mahisagar river on Wednesday morning. It is learned that many vehicles were present on the bridge at the time of the accident.
According to initial information, four vehicles including two trucks, a Bolero SUV and a pickup van were crossing the bridge when suddenly it collapsed and many vehicles fell into the Mahisagar river. Three people have died in this accident.
Eyewitnesses said that a loud sound was heard before the vehicles fell into the river. The fire brigade, local police and Vadodara district administration reached the spot and immediately started rescue operations. Local people also helped in removing the injured from the debris. So far three people have been rescued and admitted to nearby hospitals.
On the incident of the collapse of the bridge, Gujarat Road and Building Department Secretary PR Patelia told the media, “We have received information about the bridge being damaged, a team of experts has been sent to the spot.”
A local resident said, “This bridge is not only dangerous in terms of traffic accidents, but there have also been many incidents of suicide here. Repeated warnings were given about its condition, but the administration did not pay attention.”
At the same time, Congress leader Amit Chavda wrote on social media, “The main Gambhira bridge connecting Anand and Vadodara districts has collapsed. Many vehicles have fallen into the river and a large number of casualties are feared. The administration should immediately start rescue operations and arrange for alternative routes.”
Let us tell you that this bridge was built in 1985. The Gujarat government had recently approved the construction of a new bridge at a cost of Rs 212 crore.
