Political debate has intensified once again regarding the tension between India and China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Director General Shatrujit Kapur has revealed that there have been several face-offs between Indian and Chinese soldiers in Arunachal Pradesh, noting that such a situation continues to exist along the border. Following his statement, the Congress party has targeted the central government.

What did ITBP Director General Shatrujit Kapur say?

Speaking at an event, ITBP chief Shatrujit Kapur mentioned that there have been several instances in Arunachal Pradesh where troops from both nations came face-to-face. He also praised the work of the ‘Shaurya’ commando teams deployed at the border. According to Kapur, the ITBP began as a ‘mountain guerrilla force’ but later evolved into a conventional force tasked with securing the border with China. The organization now aims to strengthen its identity as a highly capable force in high-altitude mountainous regions.

Jairam Ramesh targets the central government

Following the ITBP DG’s statement, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh took to the social media platform ‘X’ to target the central government. He alleged that the government—which claims to be a ‘Vishwaguru’ (global leader/teacher)—has given China a free hand. Jairam Ramesh noted that while the ITBP chief’s praise for the performance of Indian soldiers during recent face-offs with the Chinese military in Arunachal Pradesh is well-deserved, he questioned the Prime Minister’s silence, describing it as surprising. Tension between India and China also occurred in Doklam

In 2017, a prolonged military standoff took place between India and China in the Doklam region. During this period, the armies of both nations were face-to-face, and the issue became a subject of significant political discussion within the country. At that time, the opposition had also raised questions regarding the central government’s policy towards China.
