The matter came to light when a local Shiv Sena (UBT) leader caught Suraj Patil, an office-bearer of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), at a shop in Kharghar with 3,404 SIR forms pertaining to the Panvel Assembly constituency.
He stated that the concerned authorities were informed, and revenue officials subsequently examined the seized documents. A Naib Tehsildar lodged an official complaint, and a case was registered against Patil.
What did the District Magistrate say?
According to district administration officials, the seized documents included genuine SIR forms for the Panvel Assembly constituency (No. 188), complete with voters’ photographs, personal details, and the official signatures of BLOs.
The Raigad District Magistrate said, “Our officials examined the documents and found them to be genuine; the matter fell under the purview of the BLOs. Therefore, we have suspended five BLOs from that area.”
Case registered by Kharghar Police
The Kharghar Police have registered an FIR against Patil under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Representation of the People Act.
Police stated that Patil was detained and served a notice in accordance with legal procedure before being released.
