Two cousins sitting by the roadside died after being struck by a bus, while 13 passengers on board sustained injuries.

A passenger bus lost control and overturned on the Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway in Uttarakhand late Friday evening. Two cousins sitting by the roadside were struck and killed by the bus, while 13 passengers on board sustained injuries.
The accident occurred near Kapatiyal Bend, approximately one kilometer past the Bhadrakali police outpost.
Pandemonium ensued at the scene following the crash, and locals assisted with rescue efforts. According to reports, the bus, fully loaded with passengers, had departed from Kharasrot parking for Haridwar. Upon reaching a slope in the Bhadrakali area, the driver informed the passengers that the brakes had failed. Subsequently, control of the vehicle was lost, and the bus overturned near Kapatiyal Bend.
Passengers from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh
During the incident, two young men sitting by the roadside were also struck by the vehicle. The passengers included people from Samastipur, Chhapra, and Darbhanga in Bihar, as well as surrounding areas. Some individuals from districts in Uttar Pradesh bordering Bihar were also among the travelers. All passengers had departed from Delhi around 9:30 PM on Thursday in a bus bearing Rajasthan registration plates and had arrived in Rishikesh on Friday morning.
After arriving in Rishikesh, the bus was parked at the Kharasrot parking lot. About 60 passengers took a holy dip at Triveni Ghat and set out for the Neelkanth Mahadev Temple in the afternoon. Upon returning, they visited the Lakshman Jhula, Ram Jhula, and Swargashram areas. Afterward, the group returned to the parking lot and departed for Haridwar by bus around 8:30 PM.
Injured Sent to Hospital
Police and rescue teams arrived at the scene immediately after receiving news of the accident. The injured were sent to the hospital for treatment. The police have initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident. Preliminary information suggests brake failure, though the exact cause will only be confirmed once the investigation is complete. The police are also working to identify the deceased and ascertain other facts related to the accident.
