Dragged the body, then removed the earrings
The video shows two individuals dragging the woman’s body using wooden planks. They are also seen pulling the body by its hair. Subsequently, the two remove the gold earrings from her ears and set them aside. Several people are visible in the vicinity during this time; some watched the entire incident unfold, while others recorded it on their mobile phones.
As the video spread across the internet, people strongly condemned the act. There was widespread anger on social media, and calls for stern action against the accused grew louder. The Nepal Police also treated the matter seriously after the video surfaced.
Police detained the accused
The Nepal Police announced on the social media platform X that the individuals who stole the earrings from the woman’s body had been arrested. The police also shared a clip of the viral video in their post. Following this action, details emerged revealing that the act had been committed on the body of a woman who had perished in the floods.
This incident comes at a time when Nepal and Tibet are grappling with severe flooding. So far, 469 people have lost their lives in this disaster, while over 1,500 people remain missing along the border of the two countries. The floods have caused massive destruction across a vast area, and hundreds of people remain stranded in the affected regions.
290 Indians still unaccounted for
Many Indian citizens have also been affected by the floods. The Government of India is working to locate 290 of its citizens who remain missing. The disaster has resulted in damaged roads and washed-away bridges. The accumulation of mud and debris in the affected areas is hindering relief and rescue teams from reaching the site.
