The flood situation in Assam remains critical. The state recorded its first flood-related fatality on Tuesday (June 30), while over 46,000 people across six districts have been affected. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), two major rivers, including the Brahmaputra, are flowing above the danger mark, disrupting normal life and damaging infrastructure in several areas.
Dhemaji Most Affected
According to the ASDMA flood bulletin, a woman drowned in floodwaters in the Sisiborgaon area of Dhemaji district. This marks the first flood-related death in the state this year. A total of 46,938 people across 221 villages and 10 revenue circles in six districts—Dhemaji, Nalbari, Dibrugarh, Chirang, Lakhimpur, and Biswanath—have been affected. Dhemaji district alone accounts for the highest number of affected people, at 45,841. The day before, the total number of affected people across five districts stood at 45,500.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has assured that all possible assistance will be provided to the affected areas. He stated on social media that no effort is being spared in flood control operations. The Chief Minister mentioned that he is continuously monitoring the situation, while his cabinet colleagues are present in the affected areas to oversee relief operations, safety measures, and the timely delivery of aid.
Over 450 Displaced People in Relief Camps
Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika and Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Jogen Mohan visited several flood-affected areas, interacted with locals, and reviewed relief operations. According to the ASDMA, the Brahmaputra River at Nematighat and the Disang River at Nanglamuraghat are flowing above the danger mark. More than 450 displaced people have been sheltered in four relief camps across the state, while six relief material distribution centers are also operational. Thousands of hectares of crops and over 88,000 livestock affected
The floods have also had a widespread impact on agriculture and livestock. In the state, 3,809.0243 hectares of agricultural land have been submerged. Additionally, more than 88,000 livestock—including 50,000 large animals—have been affected by the floods. According to the ASDMA bulletin, various infrastructure elements, including several roads, have also sustained damage during the current wave of flooding.
