The last rites of six members of a single family from Laksar, who died in a road accident in Pauri, were performed on Saturday amidst a somber atmosphere. Everyone was overcome with grief at the sight of six funeral processions leaving the same house simultaneously.
Eyes were moist among the thousands of people gathered for the funeral. A pall of gloom has hung over the village since the news of the accident arrived on Friday; fires were not even lit in people’s hearths. Meanwhile, the elderly mother and relatives of the deceased, Afzal, are inconsolable.
It was his son’s birthday
Afzal, a resident of Raipur village in Laksar, was working as a contractor in Bharsar, Pauri, alongside his brother Gufran. Taking advantage of the Kanwar Mela holidays, he was traveling to Pauri for an outing with his wife and children. It is reported that Friday was also the birthday of Afzal’s 14-year-old son, Shadab.
Afzal had planned a family trip and a celebration for his son’s birthday, but fate had other plans—something Afzal had no inkling of. He did not know that the joy he sought to share with his family would turn into tragedy, and that he would never return home with them.
Afzal had left home around 7:00 AM on Friday with his brother Gufran, wife Shabbo, sons Aman, Arman, and Arham, and daughter Anaviya. Their Bolero car plunged into a gorge at Kunddhar, before reaching Pauri. Everyone in the car perished in the accident, except for Arham, who is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital.
When news of the accident reached the village on Friday, a wave of grief swept through the entire community. Everyone who heard about the tragedy was moved to tears. Mourning has gripped the village since the accident; no meals were cooked in homes that night. This heart-wrenching incident has shaken the entire region. Chaos and grief engulfed the village on Saturday when the bodies of the deceased arrived. Everyone was devastated to witness six funeral processions emerging from a single home. Amidst the crowd of thousands who had gathered for the last rites, there was not a dry eye. The final rites were performed in a deeply mournful atmosphere. Meanwhile, Afzal’s elderly mother, Nafisa, and other family members are inconsolable; until the previous day, the elderly mother had been told only that everyone had been injured in a road accident.
