Three people died on the spot, while two others sustained serious injuries. Preliminary investigations suggest a burst tyre was the likely cause of the accident. A pall of gloom has descended upon the village following the incident.

According to reports, Raja Rajbhar (42), a resident of Kudaran village, was sleeping by the roadside outside his home with other family members due to the heat. Around 3:00 AM, a truck traveling from Varanasi towards Sonbhadra suddenly went out of control. It is reported that the driver lost control after the truck’s front tyre burst. The truck ran over the people sleeping by the roadside and crashed into the wall of a house.

Raja Rajbhar (42), his mother Sukhiya Devi (75), and Chandratara Devi (55)—wife of Sitaram Rajbhar—died on the spot. Meanwhile, Suhani Rajbhar (14) and Sunil Sharma (37) were critically injured. Alerted by the loud noise of the crash, locals rushed to the scene and informed the police.

Upon receiving the information, the Ahraura police arrived and, with the help of locals, initiated relief and rescue operations. The police rescued the two injured individuals and sent them to the Community Health Centre at Chacheri Mod, Chunar, for treatment. After administering first aid, doctors referred both patients to the Trauma Centre in Varanasi for advanced care due to their critical condition.

The police took custody of the bodies, completed the inquest formalities, and sent them to the mortuary for post-mortem examinations. The families of the deceased are devastated, and the entire village is in mourning.

According to police officials, a burst tyre is suspected to be the cause of the accident based on preliminary findings, though all aspects are being investigated. The truck has been impounded, and action is being taken regarding the driver. Tensions flared on Thursday morning near Kudaran village on the Varanasi-Shaktinagar highway after three people were killed in a collision with a truck. Around 8 AM, the families of the deceased and local villagers gathered at the scene and blocked the highway. An altercation ensued between the police and the villagers; it is alleged that a police officer mistreated a villager during this exchange, sparking public outrage.

The agitated villagers began pelting stones at the police. As the situation deteriorated, additional police forces and the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) were summoned to the site. The police resorted to a lathi-charge to control the crowd, causing people to scatter in panic; nearby residents took shelter in their homes to save themselves. After about an hour of chaos, the police brought the situation under control and restored traffic flow.

Inconvenience to Daily Commuters and Duty-Goers

Traffic on the Varanasi-Shaktinagar highway was severely disrupted due to the commotion and the road blockade. As a security measure, the police halted vehicular movement on the route. Vehicles traveling from Varanasi to Sonbhadra were diverted from Adalhat towards Imaliyachatti, while those coming from Sonbhadra to Varanasi were diverted from Ahraura via Jamui towards Imaliyachatti.

The route diversions caused significant inconvenience to school teachers, bank employees, private sector staff, and other daily commuters. Many were unable to reach their workplaces on time. According to the police, the situation has now returned to normal, and security arrangements across the area have been stepped up.
