Damoh: In a gruesome incident early Friday morning in Kabirpur village (under the Magron police station area), a man hacked his wife and three young children to death with an axe following a family dispute. Acting on information provided by villagers, the police arrived and arrested the accused, who was found holding the blood-stained axe. Evidence was collected from the scene, and the accused is currently being interrogated.
Long-standing family dispute
According to the police, Dwarka Patel (28) brutally murdered his wife and three children in Kabirpur village. He had been embroiled in a dispute with his wife, Khema Patel, for the past year. Arguments had been ongoing between the couple for two days. Khema’s family members had even arrived to mediate and made every effort to reconcile the couple. Believing the conflict had been resolved, they returned to their own home; however, Dwarka Patel remained consumed by rage.
Wife had filed a harassment case
Damoh Superintendent of Police (SP) Anand Kaladgi, accompanied by a police force, inspected the crime scene. SP Kaladgi stated, “We received information about the incident from villagers via the ‘Dial 112’ service at 6:00 AM. When the police team arrived, the accused was sitting at the doorway of the house, holding the blood-stained axe. The police apprehended him immediately upon arrival.”
The SP added, “There had been a long-standing dispute between the couple. About six months ago, the wife had filed a harassment case under Section 498. The accused committed the murders at 4:30 AM on Friday, while his wife and three children were asleep.”
Villagers alerted ‘Dial 112’
According to the police, the three children included an eldest daughter and two sons, aged 7, 4, and 1 year, respectively. A sensation gripped the village on Friday morning when residents saw Dwarka Patel sitting at his doorstep holding a blood-stained axe. They immediately alerted the ‘Dial 112’ emergency service. When the police arrived at the scene, they found four blood-stained bodies inside the house. Subsequently, a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team arrived promptly and collected evidence.
