A shocking incident has come to light in Bengaluru, where a cab driver has been arrested for the murder of seven members of his in-laws’ family. The victims include his wife and a seven-year-old child. It is reported that the crime was committed due to a domestic dispute.
The accused has been identified as Indushekhar and has been arrested by the Rajajinagar police. The body of seven-year-old Puneeth was recovered near Nandi Hills in the Chikkaballapur district, while a search for the remaining bodies is underway. The crime was committed two days ago.
The victims have been identified as Rupavathi from Srirampura, her daughter Sunitha, her sons Shivakumar and Shankar, her daughters-in-law Divya and Nalini, and her seven-year-old grandson, Puneeth.
According to preliminary information from the police, Indushekhar married Sunitha about 20 years ago. Sunitha maintained close ties with her maternal family, which frequently led to arguments between the couple. During these disputes, Sunitha’s mother and brothers would support her, which angered the accused.
Police sources state that Indushekhar had planned the murders in advance. He first killed his wife, Sunitha, at their home by attacking her with a grinding stone (sil-batta). To avoid suspicion, he told Sunitha’s family that she had gone away on a trip with some friends.
The accused then invited his brothers-in-law, Shivakumar and Shankar, to his home under the pretext of having a drink, and subsequently murdered them. He is also accused of killing his mother-in-law, Rupavathi, his sisters-in-law, Nalini and Divya, and the seven-year-old, Puneeth.
The case came to light when Nalini went missing under mysterious circumstances, prompting her mother to file a complaint with the Srirampura police. During the investigation, the police questioned Indushekhar; his contradictory statements aroused their suspicion.
A search of his home yielded clues linked to the crime. Under interrogation, the accused confessed to committing the murders. The police stated that he had disposed of the bodies at various locations around Nandi Hills. On Thursday, he was taken to the area, and after a search lasting about four hours, Puneeth’s body was recovered. Efforts to locate the remaining bodies are ongoing.
It is alleged that he cleaned up bloodstains and washed the stone grinder (sil-batta) used in the commission of the crime. The police have also reportedly seized the car used to transport the bodies.
According to preliminary information, Indushekhar ran a newspaper called ‘Thana Varadi’ and had been living in a rented house near Bhashyam Circle for the past eight years. The police are also investigating allegations concerning a dispute between the accused and the owner of the building.
