Indian tourists among 15 killed as speedboat capsizes in Vietnam, dozens rescued

A boat carrying Indian tourists capsized at sea near Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam on Saturday. Fifteen Indians lost their lives in this tragic accident, while 21 people were rescued safely. Relief and rescue operations are ongoing following the incident. The Indian Embassy is monitoring the situation closely, and emergency response centers have been set up in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to assist the affected families.

According to the Vietnamese news portal ‘VnExpress International’, a speedboat carrying 32 Indian tourists and four crew members was traveling from ‘Hon May Rut’ to ‘An Thoi Port’ when it capsized approximately 400 meters from ‘Hon May Rut Ngoi’, causing everyone on board to fall into the sea. The portal reported a total of 15 fatalities in the incident.

Upon receiving news of the accident, the Indian Embassy in Vietnam confirmed the incident via a post on X (formerly Twitter).

In its tweet, the Embassy stated, “In a deeply tragic incident, a boat carrying several Indian tourists capsized near Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam, a few hours ago. Precise details of the accident are being ascertained, and search and rescue operations by local authorities are currently underway.”

The Indian Embassy confirmed that search and rescue operations are continuing. Control rooms have been established at the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City and the Indian Embassy in Hanoi to provide information and assistance regarding the incident. However, the Indian Embassy has not yet released specific details regarding the fatalities.
