IMD warns of more tornadoes in Bengal after 5 killed and over 100 injured in Jalpaiguri

India Meteorological Department has once again issued an alert. IMD has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in many northeastern states during the next five days.

The storm has caused huge devastation in some parts of Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal. Five people died due to the storm, while hundreds were injured. Many huts and houses were damaged, trees were uprooted and electric poles fell due to strong winds accompanied by hailstorm in most parts of the district. Dhupguri and Mainaguri districts have been most affected by the storm.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has once again issued an alert. IMD has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in many northeastern states during the next five days. The weather department has issued a warning of light to moderate rain with thunderstorm in parts of Alipurduar, Cooch Behar and Jalpaiguri districts of West Bengal.

State CM Mamata Banerjee has expressed grief over the storm caused by the cyclone. CM canceled her program and reached Jalpaiguri on Sunday night itself. He took stock of the area and also visited a hospital to meet people affected by the cyclone.
