Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court has acquitted Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in the sexual harassment case involving female wrestlers. Vinod Tomar has also been acquitted in the case.

A Delhi court on Monday acquitted former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and former BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in the case involving allegations of sexual harassment made by female wrestlers. The court also cleared the co-accused in the case, former WFI Assistant Secretary Vinod Tomar, of the charges.
Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh arrived at Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Monday morning ahead of the verdict. Before entering the court, he stated, “Whatever is to be said, the court will say it; I will not say anything right now.” Subsequently, the hearing commenced, and Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Ashwani Panwar pronounced the acquittal.
Court had reserved the verdict on July 2
The court had reserved its judgment in the matter on July 2. During the hearing on Monday, the court granted relief to both Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and Vinod Tomar by acquitting them.
The case stemmed from allegations of sexual harassment leveled by six female wrestlers. Following serious accusations made by the wrestlers against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the Delhi Police had registered an FIR against him.
Wrestlers leveled allegations in 2023
In January 2023, Olympic medalists Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, along with fellow wrestler Vinesh Phogat, accused Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment and abuse of power.
The Delhi Police registered a case based on the wrestlers’ complaints. Apart from Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the name of former WFI Assistant Secretary Vinod Tomar was also included in the FIR.
Charge sheet filed in 2023
The Delhi Police filed a charge sheet against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh under various sections in June 2023. Subsequently, in May 2024, the trial court framed charges against him regarding the alleged harassment of five female wrestlers and the outraging of their modesty. Cancellation report filed in the case involving the minor wrestler
A minor wrestler had also leveled allegations against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in this matter. However, she later withdrew her complaint. Subsequently, the Delhi Police filed a cancellation report under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and the case was closed.
