While the month of May typically brings scorching heat and heatwaves, this time around, the weather has taken a different turn in several parts of the country. In many North Indian states—including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh—temperatures remain moderate due to strong winds and rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the possibility of rain, thunderstorms, and lightning strikes across Northwest India between May 10 and May 13. During this period, strong winds gusting at speeds of 40 to 70 kilometers per hour may prevail.

Rain accompanied by thunderstorms is also likely in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall has been forecast for several locations across the northeastern states.
Weather activity remains dynamic in South India as well. Heavy rainfall is anticipated in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal over the next 6 to 7 days. These regions may also experience strong, gusty winds. Conversely, a heatwave alert has been issued for Western Rajasthan and Gujarat for the period between May 9 and May 13.

However, a slight dip in temperatures is anticipated after May 12.
An alert for storms and rain has been issued for Uttar Pradesh for the period between May 8 and May 13. According to the IMD, the activation of a new Western Disturbance could trigger strong winds blowing at speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour across western and eastern Uttar Pradesh. There is also a possibility of sudden severe squalls and lightning strikes in certain areas.
In Uttarakhand, light rainfall and lightning are expected in Dehradun, Nainital, Haridwar, Pithoragarh, Almora, and Chamoli. The weather in the hilly regions could change abruptly.
