Politics over SIR
The opposition claims that the SIR has deprived marginalized communities of their rights. The ruling party, however, maintains that improving the voter list is necessary. The opposition strongly raised this issue during the Bihar elections. Specifically, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, organized a “Voter Rights March.” Rahul Gandhi brought together opposition parties in Bihar on this issue. However, when the election results came in, this issue did not prove beneficial for the opposition. In Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav has been consistently vocal against the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act). Following the CAA, the NDA secured a resounding victory in the Bihar assembly elections.
