The Tata-Ernakulam Express, traveling from Tatanagar in Jharkhand to Ernakulam in Kerala, was involved in a major accident in Andhra Pradesh. A fire suddenly broke out in two coaches of the moving train near Yelamanchili in Anakapalli district, causing panic among the passengers. Two coaches were completely gutted in the fire, and one passenger has been confirmed dead.
The fire started in coaches B2 and M1.
According to reports, the fire originated in coaches B2 and M1. As the fire spread, efforts were immediately made to evacuate the passengers safely. During this process, a body was recovered from one of the coaches. Anakapalli Superintendent of Police Tuhin Sinha confirmed the incident and the death of one passenger, although the deceased’s identity has not yet been established.
According to railway officials, the fire started in coach B1. As soon as the loco pilot saw flames rising from the train, he immediately stopped the train at Yelamanchili station. Evacuation of passengers and firefighting operations were then initiated.
Fire tenders brought the fire under control in time.
Railway employees, as a precautionary measure, detached coaches B1, B2, and M1 from the train. Coaches M1 and B2 were completely destroyed in the fire. Parawada DSP Vishnu Swaroop and the NTR team took charge of the relief and rescue operations at the scene. Fire tenders brought the fire under control in a timely manner.
The railways have ordered an inquiry into the cause of the incident.
