IndiGo flight damaged in bird hit, makes emergency landing at Nagpur

IndiGo flight narrowly escaped a major accident shortly after taking off from Nagpur Airport in Maharashtra. IndiGo flight number 6E812 from Nagpur to Kolkata collided with a bird as soon as it took off. The front part of the plane was damaged in this collision. There were 272 passengers on board the plane, but everyone’s life was saved due to the pilot’s presence of mind.

Safe landing averted a major accident

After the possibility of a bird collision, the plane was immediately called back to Nagpur Airport. The flight landed safely and all the passengers were evacuated safely.

Nagpur Airport Senior Director Abid Ruhi said, “There is a possibility of bird strike in Nagpur-Kolkata flight 6E812. Investigation is being done to find out what actually happened. At present, the passengers are safe and detailed information about the case will be shared soon.”

Airlines and DGCA engaged in investigation

IndiGo issued a statement saying that the technical investigation of the plane is being done. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has also been informed about this incident. According to aviation rules, in case of bird strike, immediate landing is done under the safety protocol.

Incidents of bird strike increase during monsoon and rainy season at airports across the country. Many such cases are recorded every year at major airports like Nagpur, Delhi and Mumbai.
