Seven of a Family Killed in Rain-Triggered Landslide in J&K’s Reasi District In Jammu and Kashmir

Nazir and his family were sleeping when their house located on a hill slope came under the debris due to the landslide and all of them were buried under it. Locals and police pulled out the bodies from the debris.

Seven members of a family were killed when a house collapsed due to a landslide in a remote village in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday morning. Officials said that a house collapsed due to a landslide caused by heavy rains in Baddar village of Mahore. They said that the bodies of all seven members of the family have been recovered.

Children also included among the dead

Officials said that the deceased have been identified as Nazir Ahmed (38), his wife Wazira Begum (35) and their sons Bilal Ahmed (13), Mohammad Mustafa (11), Mohammad Adil (eight), Mohammad Mubarak (six) and Mohammad Wasim (five).

Accident happened while sleeping

They said that Nazir and his family were sleeping when their house located on a hill slope came under the debris due to the landslide and all of them were buried under it. Local people and police pulled out the bodies from the debris. Many parts of Jammu and Kashmir received moderate to heavy rainfall overnight.

LG expressed grief over the accident

Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha said, “I am deeply saddened by the devastation caused by cloudburst and rain-triggered landslides in Reasi and Ramban. I express my condolences to the bereaved families. I have spoken to senior officials and inquired about the situation. Relief and rescue operations are underway. All possible help is being provided to the affected people.”

Statement of MLA Khurshid Ahmed on the accident

MLA (Mahor) Khurshid Ahmed said, “It is very sad. We have never seen such heavy rain and storm before. Last night, there was heavy rain and a cloudburst, causing debris to fall on his house, killing seven people. Locals have started rescue operations and all seven bodies have been recovered.”
