Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Sudhir Kumar said that Jyoti Sharma, a BDS second year student of Sharda University located in the Knowledge Park police station area, committed suicide by hanging herself from a fan in her hostel room.

A medical student allegedly committed suicide on Friday night in a university hostel located in Knowledge Park police station area of Greater Noida. In this case, a case has been registered against seven people including the dean on the charge of harassing her and two professors have been taken into custody. Police gave this information.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Sudhir Kumar said that Jyoti Sharma, a BDS second year student in Sharda University located in Knowledge Park police station area, committed suicide by hanging herself from a fan in her hostel room. He said that after receiving information about the incident, the police reached the spot and took the body into custody and sent it for post-mortem. Kumar said that Jyoti’s father Ramesh Jangra, a resident of Gurugram, has lodged a case against the university’s dean Dr. M Siddharth and Professor Sary Madam, Mahendra, Anurag Awasthi and Surabhi, besides an unknown person.
Ramesh alleges that his daughter committed suicide due to harassment, misbehavior and intimidation by these people. The SHO said that according to Ramesh, Jyoti had told him about her being mistreated and he had come to the college and talked to the dean and others about this. Ramesh said that he was assured that Jyoti would not be mistreated in any way, but even after that she continued to be harassed.
He said that he called his daughter late on Friday night but she did not pick up the phone. After this, another student living in the room with his daughter knocked on the door of the room but she did not open the door. Ramesh claimed that he informed the Greater Noida Police about the incident at night but the college administration did not inform the police either. He said that the student had written a suicide note before dying, in which she has accused the people of the college administration. The SHO said that the police have registered a case and started investigation and two professors Mahendra and Sairi Madam have been taken into custody.
Sharda University Chancellor PK Gupta said that the matter is being investigated internally at the university level. He said that in the initial investigation, the dean told him that the student had forged the professor’s signature in one of her ‘test’ copies, for which she was reprimanded and her family members were also called and told about this. He said that the college administration will fully assist the police in investigating this matter.
