Since May 29, 19 people have lost their lives in Assam alone. According to the data provided by the officials of the northeastern states, since May 29, 12 people have died in Arunachal Pradesh, 6 in Meghalaya, 5 in Mizoram, 4 in Sikkim, 2 in Tripura and one each in Nagaland and Manipur due to floods and landslides.
6.79 lakh people affected by rain and floods in 21 districts
According to the report of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), more than 6.79 lakh people have been affected by floods and rains in 21 districts. More than 14,977 hectares of crop land in 1,494 villages has been affected by the floods. Sribhumi in Assam has the highest number of 2,59,601 people affected, followed by Hailakandi with 1,72,439 and Nagaon with 1,02,716 people affected by the floods. A total of 190 relief camps are being run for the flood-affected people in the state, which are providing shelter to 39,746 displaced people.
Heavy rain alert in Assam today
Brahmaputra and 8 other rivers, Burhidihing, Kopili, Barak, Sonai, Rukni, Dhaleshwari, Katkhal, Kushiyara are flowing above the danger mark at many places in Assam. The Guwahati-based Regional Meteorological Center (RMC) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at different places in the state. It has been said that there is a possibility of thunderstorms and lightning and strong winds at a speed of 30-40 kmph in Dhubri, South Salmara-Mankachar, Goalpara and Kokrajhar.
Bridge washed away in Arunachal, villages cut off from connectivity
The situation is very serious due to severe floods and landslides in Dibang Valley district of Arunachal Pradesh. Due to heavy rains, the bridge was washed away in the river flood and the villages have lost contact. The administration is now trying to deliver relief material to the stranded villagers through drones and airdrops.
