Intense heatwave claims 8 lives in Rajasthan, Barmer hottest in country at 49-degree C

After Barmer, Phalodi recorded the maximum temperature of 48.6 degrees Celsius on Thursday, followed by Fatehpur (47.6), Jaisalmer (47.5), Jodhpur (47.4), Jalore (47.3), Kota (47.2), Churu (47), Dungarpur ( 46.8), Chittorgarh (45.5) and Jaipur (44) remained hot.

The scorching heat claimed eight lives in four districts of Rajasthan – Barmer, Balotra, Jalore and Bhilwara, with the maximum temperature reaching 46-48 degrees Celsius at many places in the state. On Thursday, Barmer was considered the hottest place in the country with a temperature of 48.8.

According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature exceeded 47 degrees Celsius in seven cities of the state on Thursday. Jaipur Meteorological Center said that the heat will intensify in the next two days and the mercury will reduce slightly after May 28. On the other hand, two people died due to extreme heat in Balotra.

Mularam (55) was working in the fields when his condition deteriorated due to the heat. His family members took him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Similarly, Mantu (22), who worked at a refinery company in the area, fell ill and was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. A 35-year-old man also died due to heat wave in Barmer. There are also reports of deaths from Bhilwara and Jalore districts due to the scorching heat.
