Abdul Karim Tunda, the main accused in the 1993 serial bomb blast case, has been acquitted by the court. Talking to news agency ANI, his lawyer Shafqat Sultani said that the court has acquitted Abdul Karim Tunda of every section and every act.

1993 Serial Bomb Blast accused Abdul Karim Tunda has been acquitted by the TADA court of Ajmer due to lack of evidence. The court said in its decision that no direct evidence has been found against Tunda. Tunda, now 80, is currently serving life imprisonment after being convicted in the 1996 bomb blast case. He is also an accused in many other bomb blast cases. Tunda, considered close to terrorist Dawood Ibrahim, is known as “Dr Bomb” for his bomb-making skills.
The court has acquitted Tunda citing lack of evidence against him. Whereas in this case, two other accused – Aminuddin and Irfan have been convicted and both have been sentenced to life imprisonment. Tunda, now 80, is currently serving life imprisonment after being convicted in the 1996 bomb blast case. He is also an accused in many other bomb blast cases. Considered close to terrorist Dawood Ibrahim, he is known as “Dr Bomb” for his bomb-making skills.
Let us tell you that these blasts took place in trains passing through Kota, Kanpur, Secunderabad and Surat. These train bomb blasts, which took place just a few months after the Mumbai bomb blasts, shocked the country. All the cases from far-flung towns were clubbed together and heard by a special court under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act. The command of the investigation was in the hands of the central agency CBI. CBI can approach the Supreme Court to challenge the decision of Rajasthan court acquitting Tunda.
Tunda joined terrorist organizations at the age of 40. Before this he used to work as a carpenter. He came under investigation for the first time after the 1993 Mumbai blasts. He lost his left hand in an explosion while making a bomb. He had worked with many terrorist organizations including Lashkar-e-Taiba, Indian Mujahideen, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Babbar Khalsa. In 2013, he was arrested in Banbasa, Uttarakhand, near the India-Nepal border. Four years later, a Haryana court sentenced him to life imprisonment in the 1996 blast case.
