The Hamas-run government media office (GMO) said rescue teams in the Gaza Strip recovered at least 160 bodies of Palestinians killed in Israeli attacks in the past 24 hours on Wednesday. The GMO said bodies were recovered from various locations using manual and rudimentary tools, Xinhua news agency reported.

Airstrikes, shelling and ground clashes in Gaza have largely stopped since the ceasefire came into effect on November 24. The office also said that, since the war began on October 7, more than 15,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, including about 6,150 children and 4,000 women.

GMO is reporting casualties. The health ministry in Gaza ceased functioning on 11 November following the collapse of services and communications to hospitals in the north.

The initial four-day ceasefire, as reportedly agreed by Israel and Hamas, has been extended for an additional 48 hours from Tuesday.

On Tuesday, 10 Israelis and two foreign nationals held hostage in Gaza and 30 Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails were released. The rescued hostages include nine women and one girl. The Palestinian prisoners included 15 women and 15 boys.

Since the beginning of the pause, 180 Palestinians, 61 Israelis and 20 foreign nationals have been released. Israel said that about 1200 people were killed in the Hamas attack while more than 200 people were taken hostage.
