The Supreme Court Bar Association has condemned the vandalism of a lawyer’s house and office by a mob in Manipur. The lawyer was attacked in the High Court for representing a professor from the University of Hyderabad belonging to the Kuki-zo community.

The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on Wednesday strongly condemned the vandalism of the house and office of a lawyer fighting the High Court case of a Hyderabad University professor belonging to the Kuki-Zo community in Manipur. Expressing solidarity with the aggrieved lawyer, the association demanded strict action against the culprits.
SCBA, in a resolution issued under the signature of Honorary Secretary Rohit Pandey, said, “The Supreme Court Bar Association underlines that lawyers are free to appear on behalf of any litigant. “Any attempt by any person to intimidate lawyers for appearing has the effect of interfering in the administration of justice and should be strongly condemned.”
The top court lawyers’ association said it has taken “serious notice” of news reports that the house and office of Manipur-based lawyer Sorasham Chittaranjan was vandalized by some people as he was practicing in his capacity as a lawyer. Was representing his client. The resolution said that the Supreme Court Bar Association stands in solidarity with Chittaranjan and requests the State and Manipur Police to provide adequate security to the lawyers concerned and take immediate effective action against the culprits.

The apex court on August 14 declined to entertain the petition and asked Housing to approach the Manipur High Court to pursue legal remedies.
