Bihar | Internet services suspended in Bagaha, communal clash

A day after communal clashes broke out between two communities in Bihar’s Bagaha town, the state home department has suspended internet services for the next two days. Internet ban in Bagaha city will remain in effect till 2 pm on Thursday. The Home Department has taken this decision on the report of the District Magistrate and SP of Bagaha (Baghaha is a police district and SP rank officers are posted there).

The Home Department has said that there is apprehension that some anti-social elements may use the internet to circulate provocative messages and videos to disturb the peace of the area. Therefore, as a precaution, the department has decided to shut down internet services for two days.

The home department said action was taken under the Indian Telegraph Act 1885 to suspend the telecom services for a temporary period. More than 12 people were injured in violent clashes between two communities during Nagpanchami on Monday. The injured have been admitted to the sub-divisional hospital in Bagaha and are undergoing treatment. Apart from Bagaha, violent clashes also took place in Mehsi and Kalyanpur villages of East Champaran district.
