उत्तर प्रदेश: मौत के बाद भी मंहगाई की मार, श्मशान घाट-कब्रिस्तान में देने होंगे 700 रुपये, तब होगा अंतिम संस्कार
Performing funeral rites in Aligarh is set to become more expensive. The responsibility for managing the city’s cremation grounds and burial sites will be handed over to private entities. Families will be required to pay a fee of ₹700 for funeral services, upon which a receipt will be issued.
76 Cremation Grounds and Burial Sites to be Privately Managed
The Municipal Corporation’s plan covers 39 burial sites, one burial ground for young children, and 36 cremation grounds. A private company will be entrusted with the operation and maintenance of all these locations. Facilities such as water, electricity, tin-shed shelters, and proper seating arrangements will be provided. Additionally, the sites will be equipped with boundary walls, CCTV cameras, and surveillance systems, which will help alleviate the difficulties currently faced by people during funeral proceedings.
Private Agency to Maintain Funeral Records
The private agency will be responsible for securely maintaining records of all funeral rites performed. Furthermore, a dedicated hall will be provided for the safe storage of cremated remains (ashes), making it easier to keep them secure for a specified period and retrieve them when needed. These sites will also be continuously monitored via CCTV cameras and surveillance systems.
Responsibility to be Assigned for Three Years
In the first phase, the private company will be granted responsibility for a three-year term. If performance is satisfactory, the company may be given an extension of two years, potentially allowing for a total operational tenure of five years. Families of the deceased will be required to pay a fee of ₹700 for funeral services, for which they will receive a receipt.
No Fees for Unclaimed Bodies or Economically Disadvantaged Families
No fees will be charged for the cremation or burial of unclaimed bodies or for families from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The Municipal Corporation’s objective is to provide financial relief to families in need.
No Additional Financial Burden on the Municipal Corporation
According to Municipal Commissioner Prem Prakash Meena, this arrangement will not impose any additional financial burden on the Municipal Corporation. The private company will use the revenue generated from operations and maintenance to improve the facilities at these sites. This will include the responsibility for cleanliness, the upkeep of amenities, and ensuring that essential arrangements are kept in good order. The company’s performance will also be evaluated during the first phase.
