After a video of the molestation and harassment of two minor students in the Madwa Pahar area (located on the Jamui-Lakhisarai route) went viral, the Bihar Police has focused more on pursuing those who shared the video and brought the matter to light than on taking action against the actual accused.

Yes, the Bihar Police has registered cases against more than 120 social media handles in connection with this matter. The police state that sharing the video revealed the identities of the minors, which constitutes a violation of the law. Efforts are underway to identify those who circulated the video on social media.
Statement by the Jamui Superintendent of Police
Jamui Superintendent of Police (SP) Vishwajeet Dayal stated that displaying or circulating content that reveals the identity of a minor is a serious offense. Action can be taken under the POCSO Act, the Information Technology (IT) Act, and the Juvenile Justice Act. The SP informed that cases have been registered at the Jamui Sadar Police Station under the relevant sections of these laws. He added that the police are conducting an impartial investigation and are also making efforts to have the videos uploaded on social media removed.
Youths had molested a minor female student
According to the police, FIRs have been registered against 120 social media profiles operating across various platforms so far. The administration has appealed to the public not to share any photos, videos, or other content that reveals the identity or personal details of the minor victim.
The incident occurred late Saturday evening in the Madwa Pahar area of Jamui. It is alleged that some youths stopped a minor female student and molested her. They also assaulted a male student who was accompanying her. The matter came to the administration’s attention after a video went viral on social media on Sunday evening. Subsequently, the Jamui police contacted the victim’s family and registered an FIR.
One accused arrested after an encounter
Meanwhile, the police have arrested the prime accused, Nandan Yadav—seen in the viral video wearing an orange scarf tied around his head—following an encounter. Prior to this, another accused named Ramashish Chaudhary had also been arrested. The police are continuously conducting raids to apprehend another absconding accused, Hare Ram Yadav.
The police stated that three juveniles have also been detained in connection with the case for violating the law. So far, seven to eight youths have been identified. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to conduct a detailed probe into the matter. The police are investigating the circumstances of the incident, the roles of the identified accused, and the source of the video’s recording and circulation. ADG (Law and Order) K.S. Anupam stated that efforts are underway to identify and arrest everyone involved in the crime.
