सुलगता मणिपुर: फिर बवाल, अगवा किए गए 6 नागाओं की हत्या, 28 दिन बाद मिली सड़ी-गली लाशें

The bodies of six individuals from the Naga community, allegedly abducted from Leilon Vaiphei village in Manipur on May 13, 2026, have been recovered. All the bodies have been placed in the morgue at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal.

The recovery of the bodies after approximately 28 days has sparked an atmosphere of grief and outrage in the region. Family members and community members are demanding both the formal identification of the bodies and an impartial investigation into the matter.

Timothy Vijunamai, President of the Liangmai Naga Council Manipur, stated that the first step would be to confirm whether the recovered bodies indeed belong to the six individuals who went missing last month. He added that a future course of action would be determined in consultation with the affected families once the condition of the bodies is assessed and the identification process is complete.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of the situation, Vijunamai remarked that the 28-day delay in bringing the bodies to Imphal was deeply disappointing. According to him, the government’s approach to the case has been unsatisfactory, and the community is now keenly watching the next steps to be taken. He reiterated that decisions regarding future actions would be made only after consulting the bereaved families.

Six bodies recovered after a 24-hour joint search operation

Meanwhile, the Manipur Police reported that a massive search operation involved approximately 450 personnel from the Manipur Police, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Assam Rifles. Sniffer dogs and forensic experts also assisted in the operation. The six bodies were recovered following a joint search operation that lasted about 24 hours.

According to the police, the bodies were found in a forest area near Kharam Vaiphei village in the Saikul-Gamphazol subdivision of Kangpokpi district. This area is considered to be predominantly inhabited by the Kuki-Zo community. Officials believe the deceased were among those taken hostage from Leilon Vaiphei on May 13. Call for a 24-hour shutdown

In protest against the incident, the United Naga Council (UNC)—the apex body of the Naga community—has called for a 24-hour shutdown in Manipur, effective from 6:00 AM on June 11 to 6:00 AM on June 12. The organization has appealed to the public to support the shutdown peacefully and demonstrate solidarity in the demand for justice for the affected families.

The UNC has also announced that the bodies of the six Naga hostages will not be accepted until its four-point demands are met and both the state and central governments ensure justice for the affected families.
