A bus returning with devotees from Anandpur Sahib in Punjab overturned in Fatehgarh Sahib, resulting in the deaths of six devotees on board and injuries to 21 others. The police provided this information on Wednesday.
The incident occurred around 10 PM on Tuesday night near Himmatpura, in the Morinda-Chunni Road area of Bassi Pathana. The devotees traveling in the bus were residents of Main Majri in Fatehgarh Sahib and were returning from Anandpur Sahib in the Rupnagar district after paying obeisance on the occasion of Baisakhi.
Fatehgarh Sahib Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shubham Agarwal stated, “Prima facie, it appears that the vehicle may have developed some mechanical fault.” There were approximately 40 devotees on board the bus.

The injured were admitted to hospitals in Fatehgarh Sahib, Bassi Pathana, and Morinda (Rupnagar).
Some patients were referred to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh.
Following the accident, several locals rushed to the scene and assisted in the rescue operations. One of the injured women recounted that the bus was just about to reach Main Majri village when it suddenly overturned.
Bassi Pathana MLA Rupinder Singh arrived at the accident site on Tuesday night. The MLA confirmed that all the devotees belonged to Main Majri village.
Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, President of the Punjab unit of the Congress party, expressed his grief over the deaths of the devotees.
Warring posted on the social media platform ‘X’: “I am deeply saddened by the tragic bus accident near Bassi Pathana involving devotees returning from Anandpur Sahib. My heartfelt condolences go out to the families who have lost their loved ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.” “May Waheguru grant strength to the bereaved families during this difficult time.”
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia also expressed his condolences over the deaths of the devotees.
He stated, “I am deeply saddened to learn of the deaths of six people in the tragic bus accident involving devotees returning from Sri Anandpur Sahib on the day of Baisakhi. I pray to Waheguru Ji to grant peace to the departed souls and give the bereaved families the strength to bear this grief. I wish a speedy recovery to the injured.”
