Uttarakhand | Fire breaks out at Panacea Hospital in Dehradun; elderly woman dies, two in critical condition, India

Panic ensued on Wednesday after a sudden fire broke out at Panacea Hospital, located on the Dehradun-Haridwar Road. An elderly woman, Biravati, lost her life in the incident, while the condition of two others remains critical.

A major fire incident has been reported at a hospital in Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand. Reports indicate that one patient died and 14 others sustained injuries in the incident. The fire broke out at Panacea Hospital in Dehradun. It is reported that the blaze was triggered by the explosion of an air conditioner unit within the ICU ward. Following the incident, Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey arrived at the scene and has ordered a high-level inquiry into the matter.

Patients Shifted to Another Hospital

According to reports, the fire originated in the ICU ward of Panacea Hospital. An air conditioner installed in the ward exploded, subsequently igniting a fire that caused smoke to rapidly engulf the building. Plumes of smoke were also visible rising into the sky. Upon receiving information about the fire, teams from the Fire Department and the Police arrived at the scene immediately and launched rescue and relief operations. Reports confirm that one patient lost their life in this tragic accident. The Fire Brigade has since successfully brought the fire under control, and the patients admitted to the hospital have been shifted to other facilities.

Commissioner Orders Inquiry

Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey also visited the site of the incident. He stated that no individual or patient at the scene was found to have suffered direct burn injuries from the fire. However, following the AC explosion, smoke spread rapidly throughout the ICU and surrounding areas, causing severe respiratory distress to the patients. The Commissioner noted that the hospital is currently being operated under a lease agreement by the Panacea Group. A thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire and to assess the hospital’s compliance with fire safety standards.
