उत्तर प्रदेश: एटा में मोहर्रम जुलूस के दौरान हाईटेंशन लाइन से टकराया ताजिया, एक युवक की मौत

A major accident occurred during a Tazia procession in the Etah district of Uttar Pradesh on Friday morning. One young man died tragically, while seven others were injured. All the injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital.

Reports indicate that the Tazia struck a high-tension power line during the Muharram procession in the Aliganj area of Etah. This caused an electric current to surge through the Tazia, affecting several people in the vicinity and sparking panic within the procession.

Police and administrative officials present at the scene immediately attempted to bring the situation under control. All the injured were taken to the Community Health Center in Aliganj. However, one young man—identified as Sheikh—had already succumbed to his injuries.

Irfan Khan, the deceased’s uncle, told IANS that the Tazia procession was being taken out in the presence of police and administrative officials. An 11,000-volt power line ran through the area. The Tazia came into contact with the power line, injuring several people, including his nephew Sheikh, who died as a result. He stated that they rushed straight to the hospital upon receiving news of the incident.

He alleged that no electricity department personnel were present during the procession. Had a staff member been there, the accident could have been averted by temporarily cutting off the power supply.

Arif Khan, another relative of the deceased, said, “The Tazia was being carried out in accordance with long-standing tradition. When it reached the old Tehsil area, vehicles were parked there. Requests had been made to move the vehicles and cut the power supply, but this was not done. During the procession, the Tazia struck the power line.”

Arif Khan explained that the Tazia being carried was approximately 21 feet tall. People were carrying it on their shoulders, and it was common practice to occasionally lift it higher with their hands. It was in this manner that the Tazia came into contact with the power line.
