Encountering bad weather at 17,000 feet

According to an IndiGo spokesperson, flight 6E-625 encountered adverse weather en route from Patna to Lucknow on October 7. At the time, the aircraft was flying at an altitude of 17,000 feet. Reports indicate that the aircraft was struck by lightning during this phase of the flight.

The aircraft also encountered a hailstorm while landing in Lucknow. This caused damage to the radome—the cover situated at the nose of the aircraft. Despite this, the aircraft landed safely at Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport. DGCA Launches Probe; Flight Grounded

The aircraft has been grounded following the incident. According to the airline, the aircraft will undergo inspection and necessary maintenance before receiving the required clearance for future flights.

India’s aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has also initiated an investigation into the matter. Permission for the aircraft to fly again will be granted only after obtaining the necessary regulatory approvals. Relevant authorities were immediately informed about the incident.

Another Incident Involving an IndiGo Flight

This incident follows another recent event involving IndiGo. Last month, an IndiGo flight traveling from Guwahati to Bengaluru experienced a ‘tail strike’ while landing at Kempegowda International Airport. A tail strike occurs when the rear section of the aircraft hits the ground. Following that incident, too, the aircraft was grounded.

The airline had stated at the time that the A321neo aircraft made ‘abnormal contact’ with the runway during landing amidst strong winds. In the current incident as well, the aircraft has been taken out of operations pending the completion of inspections and necessary maintenance.
