An explosion that occurred late Monday night near the Shambhu-Ambala railway track in Patiala, Punjab, has raised questions regarding security arrangements. While the blast caused damage to the railway track, the discovery of the body of an unidentified individual near the scene has further complicated the matter. Currently, the police are investigating the entire sequence of events from every possible angle.
Explosion at 10 PM; Track Damaged
According to reports, a loud explosion occurred around 10 PM on Monday night near a railway track reserved for freight trains. Although the intensity of the blast is reported to be low, it caused partial damage to the railway track. Upon receiving information about the incident, senior police officials rushed to the scene, cordoned off the area, and initiated an investigation.
Senior Officials Arrive; Agencies Join Investigation
Patiala SSP Varun Sharma personally visited the blast site, accompanied by officials of DIG rank. Additionally, teams from the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) have joined the investigation. According to the SSP, it was a low-intensity blast; however, the underlying causes behind it have not yet been ascertained.
Discovery of Body Deepens Mystery
The body of an unidentified individual was also recovered from the vicinity of the blast site. However, it remains unclear whether the individual died as a result of the explosion or if there was another cause behind their death. The police are conducting a thorough investigation into this angle as well and are actively attempting to establish a link between the two incidents.
Forensic Investigation Underway; Similar Incident Occurred Previously
A forensic team has collected samples from the scene to determine the type of explosives used in the blast. It is noteworthy that a similar explosion occurred earlier in January on a freight corridor track in Sirhind, Fatehgarh Sahib district, resulting in damage to a train’s engine and injuries to a loco pilot. The current incident is also being viewed as potentially linked to that previous event.
