India | 8 Pilgrims Killed, 12 Injured In Pick-Up Truck-Tanker Collision In Andhra Pradesh

Yemmiganur Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) N. Bhargavi stated that eight devotees died on the spot, while several others sustained injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

At least eight devotees, including five women, were killed and 10 others injured on Thursday when a goods vehicle collided with a tanker in Mantralayam, Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh. A police official confirmed the details.

The accident occurred while the devotees were en route to offer prayers at the Sri Raghavendra Swami Math in Mantralayam, when the vehicle—carrying approximately 20 passengers—crashed into a tanker. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep anguish over the incident and inquired about the condition of the injured.

N. Bhargavi, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) for Yemmiganur, told reporters, “Eight devotees died on the spot, while several others sustained injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.”

She stated that the accident took place on National Highway-167 around 3:00 AM, when the driver—allegedly having fallen asleep at the wheel—drove in the wrong direction, resulting in the collision.

The deceased include a minor girl and two men. The injured were initially admitted to a nearby hospital, while those in critical condition were referred to the Kurnool Government General Hospital for advanced medical care.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Naidu directed officials to ensure that the injured receive the best possible medical treatment and extended his condolences to the families of the deceased.
